Youth Summit 2011 - Advisory Group Meeting
A meeting to plan a King County-wide Youth Summit conference in the spring of 2011.
WHEN: Sunday, September 19
WHERE: Douglas-Truth Library - 2300 E. Yesler Way, Seattle
WHEN: 1:00 to 2:45 p.m.
PREP: Think of answers to the following two questions.
1) Why a teenager would want to come to a conference like the Youth Summit.
2) What would be valuable for them to have learned or experienced.
I am forming a Youth Advisory Group for the Youth Summit 2011. Based on this group's input, we will develop the Summit content and activities. Youth ideas are important and will be critical in creating this conference. It will be youth-directed and led. In addition to designing the event, the Advisory Group will work on fundraising (grant writing), promotions (PR and marketing), technology (registration, website, Facebook, Puget SoundOff, etc.), and recruitment (organizations and participants). I hope that this will be a collaborative effort with many organizations and youth participating so that we can share the work and the ideas to create a very inclusive and youth-focused conference.
Here is a link to a newspaper article about the Youth Summit 2010 which happened last February. It will give you an idea of what the Advisory Group developed last year. http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/east_king/bel/community/87139557.html
Youth that are interested in participating with the Advisory Group and any adults that are interested in supporting this group should come to this meeting . There are no applications required. Just a willingness to work hard and a passion for empowering youth.
RSVP youthchangeactivistnetwork@gmail.com if planning to attend so that I have enough refreshments.
Thanks.
