Starting a farm-based youth program - GRuB Trainings
Join us at the GRuB Farm as we share 14 years of experience building an empowering summer youth employment program.
Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to nourishing a strong community by empowering people and growing good food. We grow inspired, self-confident and community-minded youth through educational and employment opportunities. We help low-income families to help themselves by building free backyard and community gardens at their homes and in their neighborhoods
Who is this for?
Folks who already have an organization/project and are looking for ways to engage youth in empowering relationships and meaningful work will find this most impactful. If you don't yet have an organization/project, these institutes will be useful for skill-building and networking. However, the focus will be on the planning, administration, and delivery of a youth program rather than on how you would actually start an organization (we hope to offer this at future institutes!).
Part 1: April 8-9 April 10 is an optional day to work with our youth crew.
We will address how to get started and make a solid plan that builds off of GRuB best practices. Our focus will be the admin/ planning & curriculum development/funding side of creating a youth program. (Includes lunches and snacks)
Part 2: June 22-24
The training will focus on delivery, philosophy, accessible systems, empowering language, communication skills, and hands-on practice with youth-centered farm production. It will happen in conjunction with our staff/2nd year youth leader training week, interweaving with some of the activities and offering shadow opportunities for others. (Includes lunches and snacks)
Cost: Including our Cultivating Youth Program Manual!
Part 1 - $300-$500 sliding scale
Part 2 - $300-$500 sliding scale
Register for both! - $500-800 sliding scale
We currently have no funding for scholarships so we encourage you to fundraise! A core part of running a successful youth program will be your ability to inspire your community to support this work. We encourage you to give us a call if you have questions or concerns about the cost. Space is limited to 12 people
Housing:
Coming from out-of-town? Let us know if you'll need a pace to stay. We'll do our best to find you a community host to put you up.
