Starting Again: Stories of Refugee Youth
Join the King County Youth Development Network and School’s Out Washington for a video viewing and discussion of School’s Out Washington’s first film, “Starting Again: The Stories of Refugee Youth”. With funding from the Refugee School Impact Grant (RSIG), School’s Out Washington partnered with documentary filmmaker Jill Freidberg of Corrugated Films to produce a film chronicling the lives of refugee youth in Washington State. The film highlights four youth from Burma, Nepal/Bhutan, Russia, and Somalia. Participants will discuss the film and explore collaborative strategies for supporting refugee students and families as they “start again.”
1.5 STARS/MERIT credit hours in Cultural & Individual Diversity.
RSVPs are REQUIRED and space is FULL.
Free & open to all King County afterschool & youth development staff. There will be time to share announcements and network- please bring materials to share. Free lunch will be provided or bring your own sack lunch (RSVP required).
The King County Youth Development Network (KCYDN) coordinates a series of networking events for youth workers throughout King County. The purpose of these events is to provide space for King County youth workers to learn about successful local programs, opportunities for partnering, and peer-led discussions and trainings on relevant youth topics. This series is driven by frontline staff.
