Ritual Punishment and Power: Making Sense of Mass Incarceration
The Latino Equity Initiative is dedicated in working towards criminal and judicial reforms in the State of Washington. As part of our efforts to shine a light on the disparities of sentencing on Latinos, we are proud to bring SpearIt, Assistant Professor of Law from Saint Louis University School of Law. SpearIt will speak on the legal punishment in post-Civil Rights America through the lens of ritual. By examining punishment practices from the perspective of culture the United States has the largest incarceration operation in the world and among the top five countries which execute its citizens.
