Learning and Leading in a Multicultural World
Day 1 _ Thursday, August 5, 2010
Learning in a Multicultural World
A culturally competent professional according to Sue and Sue “is one who is actively in the process
of becoming aware of his or her own assumptions about human behavior, values, biases, preconceived
notions, personal limitations, and so forth.” In this interactive workshop participants will
deepen their knowledge of cultural competence, increase their awareness of the impact of stereotyping
on ethnically diverse groups and gain understanding of various ethnic/racial identity development
models. This understanding gives participants insight into diversity within cultures, how
race is viewed through multiple lenses, and the role race may play in our relationships across cultures.
Day 2 _ Friday, August 6, 2010
Leading Organizational Change in a Multicultural World
What does an organization look like when cultural competence is institutionalized? What do I do
with what I know? What can my actions look like to create culturally relevant systemic change? In
this workshop participants will explore stages of identity development on an organizational level.
While there is no cook book approach to this work, Drs. Hollins and Wiley will address stages of
multicultural organizational development and strategies to assist you in leading institutional
change within your organization.
