Mr. Valdez has also served as a consultant to 10 states for their legislation on gangs, he has published many books and papers
including "Gangs, A Guide for Parents, Teachers, Mental Health and Law Enforcement Professionals", "Gangs", "Gangs Across America", "A Central American Export" and "A Community's Response to Street Gangs".


Alfonso Valdez, Ph.D., is a former police officer in the Los Angeles area, a Gang Unit Investigator for the Orange County District Attorney and currently serves as an adjunct professor with the University of California, Irvine. Mr Valdez has worked with organized crime units, career criminal units, the TARGET gang unit and regional gang enforcement units in the Los Angeles area.


He has also served as a consultant to many organizations including; California Department of Justice, Orange County Department of Education, U.S Department of Justice, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Stanislaus County Department of Education,
USDOJ National Institute of Corrections, Carson City School District, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corp, U.S. Army, California Attorney General's Office, the Virginia Attorney General's Office and more.
