The Americans with Disabilities Act enacted regulations and practices to make communities across the nation more accessible to those with disabilities. It also encourages fair practices in lifestyle areas such as housing and employment. The celebration features speakers, entertainment, award recognition, youth scholarship, resources, information booths and a birthday cake especially for the ADA.
Ticketing: A limited number of free tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets will also gain admission to the Zoo. Otherwise, cost is $4.50 if you have a F LASH card. FLASH cards are issued by the City of Seattle to those residents of the city who have a disability or are elderly. If you do not have a FLASH card or are not eligible, cost is $12.00.

Location: The event will be in the North Meadow of the Zoo. Please note: the North Entrance is now closed. You may still park in the parking lot at Evanston Ave. and N. 59th Street and use the new walkway to the West Entrance beginning May 1, 2010. Transportation: The Zoo is located in Greenwood, and has several bus lines leading to it. Carpooling is encouraged; parking is $5 at the Zoo for all vehicles. Alliance of People with disAbilities will provide tickets into the zoo for individuals who sign-up to attend the celebration. However, the tickets we have are more expensive than tickets using a FLASH card.

$500 Scholarship Opportunity! As part of the ADA celebration on July 26,2010 at the Woodland Zoo, we will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a youth with a disability that’s in school or college. Those interested would submit an essay, on the impact they feel the ADA has had on their life. Essays should be no more than 1000 words.
