Kids and youth in K-12 can submit any creative entry about what their perfect school would have, whether it's a rap about Batman being principal or a sculpture showing how there would be enough computers for every student. The contest goes until January 31 at midnight. Winners will win a prize and a mention on LEV's blog and in Seattle's Child. </description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>ilanak</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>Audience: All community members</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Level: All</dc:subject> <dc:date>2012-01-11T21:11:01Z</dc:date> <dc:type>SOAR Event</dc:type> </item>

The training uses an underwater LEGO robotics curriculum (called WaterBotics) where you can build underwater ROVs and learn basic science and engineering concepts. We are training educators on this curriculum, as well as on tips and tools for running effective STEM programs for girls. Throughout the workshop they also learn how to implement a summer camp program. We also check-out materials kits to the participants ($3500 value) and provide ongoing technical support. All of this is at no-cost since it is covered under the grant. To be eligible, educators have to apply and sign a contract stating they will run a summer program using the curriculum and administer our evaluation surveys.

structures that hinder effective social change. The training is based on the premise that racism has been systematically erected and that it can be "undone" if people understand where it comes from, how it functions and why it is perpetuated.
