Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness is looking for Peer Leaders for Youth Summit!!
The Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness’ Youth and Young Adult Sub-Committee will be hosting the Annual Homeless Youth and Young Adult Summit (aka Youth Summit) in September. If you’re not familiar with it, Youth Summit is a two day event for homeless youth and young adults to learn about this year’s summit will be sent out soon. We are looking for both experienced peer leaders and inexperienced peer leaders to help lead Youth Summit!
EXPERIENCED PEER LEADERS: these are young people who currently work at a youth service agency in a peer worker position, who will be paid BY THEIR AGENCY to attend Youth Summit. These young people will NOT receive a stipend. These young people already possess some leadership skills. If interested in taking on a leadership role at Youth Summit, contact Katalin Hausback at 206-633-7639.
INEXPERIENCED PEER LEADERS: these are young people who are interested in taking on a leadership role for Youth Summit, but may not have any experience whatsoever. These youth will receive a stipend. To qualify, must be under age 24 and have experienced homelessness (living on the streets, couch surfing, staying from relative’s to relative’s, staying at various friend’s houses, staying in a shelter, staying in a transitional living program, living in motels, living in places not meant for human habitation, etc. – if you are unsure, call Katalin (see below)). If you know a young person who is interested in taking on a leadership role as a peer leader during Youth Summit who is NOT currently employed by a youth service agency, please have them contact Katalin Hausback at 206-633-7639 to schedule an interview. Interviews will be held on September 7th, 2010 in Seattle. Young people who are chosen to be peer leaders will be notified later that day. For more information on the stipend, see below.
ALL PEER LEADERS: must be available from 9am-5pm September 8th, from 10:30am-noon on September 14th, and from 9am-5pm September 27th and 28th. Must be able to work with other people. Interest in advocacy a plus.
Experienced and inexperienced peer leaders who are chosen will be teamed together to lead Youth Summit. All peer leaders will receive training on leadership, advocacy, and group facilitation, and will receive a training certificate of completion. Training will take place from 9am-5pm on September 8th, 2010 in Seattle. Food will be provided at the training. TRAINING IS MANDATORY for all youth chosen to be a peer leader for Youth Summit.

Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness (SKCCH) is looking for Peer Leaders for Youth Summit!!
Youth Summit is a two day event for homeless youth and young adults to learn advocacy skills, talk about what issues are most important to them, and then go to City Council to talk about those issues. We are looking for six youth to be peer leaders. If chosen, you will work in a team with experienced Peer Leaders who currently work at youth service agencies to lead Youth Summit.
Requirements:
Must be under 24 years of age and have experienced homelessness.
Must be able to work in a team with other people.
We are looking for young people who want to be leaders.
Interest in advocacy a plus.
Must be available September 7th to interview, from 9am-5pm Sept. 8th for training, Sept.14th from 10:30am-Noon, and from 9am-5pm Sept. 27th and 28th. All in Seattle.
NO EXPERIENCE NECCESARY. We will provide training.
Compensation:
• $25 stipend for completing training and coming to planning meeting on the 14th. $50 stipend for completing both days of Youth Summit. This is a total of a $75 stipend that will be paid at the end of Youth Summit.
• Training in advocacy, leadership, team building, and group facilitation. Will receive a certificate of completion—you can put this on a resume. Food provided at training.
• FUN opportunity to have your voice heard and help other young people have their voices heard!
