Youth in Action is a series of weekly classes, public service performances, and community building.

Mission:
Youth IN Action was developed to:
*Create a safe space for high school age youth to express anger, thereby fostering non-aggressive or violent behaviors.
*Promote intergenerational culture, self expression, self knowledge and connected community through the exploration movement, music, and dance.

Core Components:
Learn the basic movements, music and culture of CAPOEIRA ANGOLA.  This includes dance moves that improve strength, balance and agility as well as playing instruments and singing in Portuguese.  Your teacher will be Contra Mestre Silvinho, who has over 20 years of experience.

Explore root causes and effects of anger, aggression and violence in our daily lives.  If you or someone you know has been a victim or perpetrator of violent behavior, learn some effective tools for change.

Build strong bonds with peers and community members.  The members of FICA Seattle will be sharing their knowledge and personal experiences with you.  Peer mentors will provide guidance and create a safe space.

Express yourself through dance and music in classes and at performances.  Often times, unexpressed emotions manifest in often uncontrollable outbursts; we encourage everyone to speak their truth and express themselves.

Design and create a 40 ft. mural.  All program members, with the guidance of a professional artist, will create a visual representation of the Youth IN Action experience outside of the FICA studio in Capitol Hill.
