YOUTH ARTS CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT!
WHO: Anyone in grades K-12 can compete. Students are invited to submit entries individually, in teams or as a class.
WHAT: CREATIVITY/ ARTS CONTEST - First Annual Dream a Sound Future K-12 Challenge
WHEN: NOW – Deadline for Entry is May 25th
WHERE: Click here for the registration form. You must register by May 25, 2010 to take part in the competition. Tell us your team name and a description of your team or a brief statement of your project vision, your goals for student learning, your timeline (it can be approximate!), and your contact information. WHY: 9 prizes (including CA$H) will be awarded. Prizes are: 6 entries will win $50 prizes, Woodland Park Zoo Family Pack, 4 tickets to Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum & Hall of Fame, Children's Museum Family Pack, 4 tickets to Museum of History & Industry
HOW: How to participate (below)
1. Form your team: Anyone in grades K-12 can compete. Students are invited to submit entires individually, in teams or as a class. The challenge is open to classes, home-schooled students, after-school organizations, informal programs or a group of friends! To be eligible for the K-12 version of the competition, at least half of the participants on your team must be student 18 years or younger and living in the greater Puget Sound area. College student groups are encouraged to participate in the Dream a Sound Future Competition.
2. Form a vision for a Sound Future based on one or more of the environments in the B-Sustainable goals. You can go online at B-Sustainable.org or choose from below. This is your chance to be creative and think about how to make Seattle a better place for all living things. Note that you are asked to go beyond the vision to develop a project that shows us what it would look like to take your vision into reality. Please provide a brief summary of your project idea in writing to dream@sustainableseattle.org.
3. Tell us how your project will connect to the work you do in your classroom, afterschool program, or other group. Schools may integrate the Dream a Sound Future K-12 Challenge with other project-based and service-learning programs. High School students are encouraged to apply for Washington State University’s Imagine Tomorrow program in addition to Dream a Sound Future.
4. Explain your timeline and process for completing the project. Let us know what the stages of your project are, and when you expect to get them done. Entries should be ready for presentation at the student celebration event on June 5, 2010.
5. Register your entry. Click here for the registration form. You must register by May 25, 2010 to take part in the competition. Entries registered after the deadline will be publicized as part of the event, but will not be eligible for an award.
6. Express your vision in the medium of your choice. From drawings and designs to dance troops and dialogues, participants are encouraged to express their vision - and the steps to get there - in conventional or unconventional ways, using a broad range of media. We will contact you to arrange for a means to capture your entry for history once you have registered.
7. Present your entry to others. Students will present their visions at the all day final event on Saturday, June 5th, 2010. We strongly encourage you to take the competition as an opportunity to deepen engagement within your neighborhoods and community. Invite them! Teams will present their work, network with other teams, enjoy other entries, and hear the announcement of contest winners.
