After-school program for middle school students of African descent (Sankofa) & Latino descent (Las Ganas)
Upcoming after-school program for middle school students of African descent (Sankofa) & Latino descent (Las Ganas).
The name of these programs are Sankofa Bi-cultural Learning Collective and Las Ganas Bi-cultural Learning Collective and it will be located at Madison middle school in West Seattle. Students will come to this after-school program for tutoring in homework or subjects they need help in. In addition, cultural activities will be conducted where students learn about their history, their language & participate in various team building activities! Later on in the year, students will take field trips to different college campuses in the area.
The goal of the program is to develop bi-cultural leaders; students who possess the skills, knowledge & drive to become leaders in the larger community without surrendering their cultural integrity!
As the coordinator for this program, Kimberly Early, I'm looking for some volunteers, especially college students, who can commit to 2-4 hours a week, one-two days a week.
Training for volunteers will be held on Saturday, February 27 at Treehouse in the Art room, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Treehouse is located at 2100 24th Avenue South in Seattle.
