The Employment Action Resource Network (EARN)

Posted by Kyla Lackie at May 27. 2010

The Employment Action Resource Network (EARN) began as a consortium of local non-profit and government employment professionals. It is a collaboration of efforts between employment training agencies, young adults, and employers with a need for entry-level workers. Our mission is to help youth and young adults successfully enter the workforce by advancing the skills of young people, employers and employment professionals through the sharing of resources, best practices and advocacy.

Here is a glimpse of what we provide for youth:

- Work with job seekers 16-24 years of age with diverse backgrounds
- Act as employment liaisons to assist employers and client employees
- Offer life skills workshops – Money Management, Time Management, Conflict Resolution, etc.
- Host job readiness trainings
- Run work training programs such as:
              Barista Training
              Customer Service Training
              Technology Training
- Increase access to community college and vocational education programs
- Offer career development workshops
- Offer subsidized and unsubsidized job placement and retention services
- Weekly “Hot Jobs” listings (post your job openings with us!)
- Host events like career forums and job fairs

How to get involved:

The EARN group meets every third Wednesdays of each month to plan for upcoming events geared towards service providers, youth, and employers, as well as share resources and networking opportunities.  It is a collaborative effort among members from various government and non-profit agencies throughout Washington who strive to do youth advocacy work on a larger scale.  We are always welcoming new members (no fees involved) who can bring new and innovative ideas, or who would like to just network with other service providers.

We are currently developing a strategic plan for the next steps and are looking to expand our group, as well as ways to be more effective and impactful in our community.  If you have any thoughts or would like to get involved with EARN, please feel free to share or let us know through this blog or you may contact us at earngroup09@gmail.com.
